Roy
Boys 'Lay By' Truck Stop:
BY CONSTABLE PAUL WHITEHEAD
-----------------------------------
ROY
BOYS REVIEW:
One pleasant Sunday at work, the sun was shining and I had been
on since 7am. It was now 10.30am and I am feeling a little bit
hungry. I was working with my colleagues PC Travers and PC Hicks
(Who also happens to be my Brother in Law)
-
Well, as we all felt rather hungry. we decided to give Roy Boys
a visit. A strange name for an eating place. Yet a culinary feast
in the Sheringham area. We drove out to Sheringham - a small town
of 8000 residents located on the North Norfolk Coast. You can
literally walk from the town onto miles of beach. Well, we drove
out of the town for a mile along the Holway Road to the main A148.
This location is within woodlands which are protected. At the
side of this road you see a lay by, with a trailer with the sign
Roy Boys painted on the side. Below this sign is the proud boast
Probably the largest burger in the World
-
This lay by is frequented by truckers and emergency service personal
along with hungry travelers. We ordered three Gut
Busters. Roy (Hes the owner, surprise)
sliced open the massive burger buns. They measure 8 inches across.
He then places a pound of meat
onto the griddle to cook. Also onto the griddle go
rashers of bacon, two fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and a handful
of grated cheese. This is placed onto the cooked meat.
Once all the ingredients are cooked, the meat is placed into the
bun along with all the other ingredients. You then have a choice
of fillings to go onto the mammoth burger.
-
On the eating side. I personally find it impossible to eat from
the bun without cutting it first. The meal is basically a cooked
breakfast in a large burger bun.
I pay £2.80 for this culinary delight. At todays exchange
rate (6/6/03) it costs around US: $4.38.
